Palam\u00f3s<\/strong> is a town located in the southern part of the Costa Brava<\/strong>, in the Baix Empord\u00e0<\/strong>, known for its fishing tradition<\/strong> and Mediterranean landscapes.<\/p>

This charming village offers a perfect balance between nature, culture, and leisure<\/strong>, with crystal-clear coves, rich historical heritage, and a privileged location at the foot of the Gavarres hills<\/strong>, ideal for relaxing and enjoying activities for all tastes.<\/p>

What to See<\/h2>

Strolling through its winding streets, you\u2019ll find a large number of shops, most of them family-run.<\/p>

Moreover, in Murada Square<\/strong> and Pedr\u00f3 Square<\/strong>, there are two viewpoints<\/strong> offering beautiful views of the bay and the marina.<\/p>

In the historic center of Palam\u00f3s, you will find the Church of Santa Maria<\/strong>, built in late Gothic<\/strong> style, along with a collection of sacred art<\/strong> and the main altarpiece<\/strong> from the 16th century<\/strong>, a work by Isaac Hermes Vermey<\/strong> from Utrecht (Netherlands).<\/p>

Also worth mentioning is the collection of the Museum of Fishing<\/strong>, one of the best in the Mediterranean, as it contains pieces from the last hundred years and is essential for understanding the fishing heritage of this prominent town in the Empord\u00e0.<\/p>

In fact, the Charter of the Town (1279)<\/strong> already mentions the town’s significant fishing activity, known at that time as Palamors<\/strong>.<\/p>

The Costa Brava coastline has historically suffered multiple raids, both by sea and by land, from pirates and military conflicts. This town is no exception, as it was attacked by the Turkish pirate Barbarossa<\/strong> in 1543<\/strong>.<\/p>

The Port of Palam\u00f3s<\/strong> has been and remains an important hub of commercial, tourist, and fishing activity. Today, it is the fifth-largest port in Catalonia<\/strong> in this sector and contributes to preserving the town\u2019s fishing heritage through initiatives like the prestigious Palam\u00f3s Prawn Menu<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>

At the edge of the town\u2019s port, you\u2019ll find the Palam\u00f3s lighthouse<\/strong>. Located specifically at Punta del Mol\u00ed<\/strong>, it offers unique views over the bay. The lighthouse\u2019s hexagonal<\/strong> shape is quite unique in Catalonia.<\/p>

A bit further from the historic center is the Castle of Sant Esteve de Mar<\/strong>, built on Roman remains.<\/p>

This castle occupies a privileged area, atop a cliff, between La Fosca beach and Cala s’Alguer<\/strong>.<\/p>

If you are passionate about archaeology, don\u2019t miss the site that includes the Montagut dolmen<\/strong>, dating back to the Chalcolithic<\/strong> and early Bronze Age<\/strong>.<\/p>

We also recommend visiting the settlement on the Sa Cobertera peninsula<\/strong>, at Castell beach<\/strong>, from the Bronze-Iron transition period in the 1st century AD<\/strong>, and recognized as a cultural asset of national interest since 1996<\/strong>.<\/p>

Findings reveal that this is one of the most significant pre-Roman indigenous villages<\/strong> of the Neolithic era in Catalonia. Additionally, it was at this site that the longest lead tablet with Iberian script<\/strong> in Catalonia was discovered.<\/p>

Among the most important buildings preserved in the town are: Bell-lloc Hermitage<\/strong>, first documented in 1273<\/strong>, Santa Eug\u00e8nia de Vila-rom\u00e0 Parish Church (Sant Joan de Palam\u00f3s)<\/strong> from the 18th century<\/strong>, and the Chapel of El Carme<\/strong> from the 18th century<\/strong>.<\/p>

The town is divided into two Natural Interest Areas (EIN)<\/strong>. On one side, there\u2019s the “Les Gavarres” EIN<\/strong>, which includes much of the town\u2019s historical, cultural, and ethnological heritage, and on the other, the \u201cCastell \u2013 Cap Roig\u201d EIN<\/strong>, with an attractive coastal stretch marked by the renowned Cam\u00ed de Ronda<\/strong>.<\/p>

Additionally, the Carnival of Palam\u00f3s<\/strong> is another must-see event, where every year the streets fill with color, costumes, and parades in a festive, lively atmosphere. For sea lovers, the Pescaturisme days<\/strong> offer a unique opportunity to learn about the fishing profession and the fishing tradition of the town, with activities like fishing with professionals and participating in the fish auction.<\/p>

    How to Get There<\/h2>

    From Girona<\/a><\/strong>, the fastest route is to take the C-65<\/strong> and continue on C-31<\/strong> towards C-256<\/strong> to Palam\u00f3s. You can also arrive by bus by taking Line 44<\/strong> (Girona – Palam\u00f3s – Palafrugell) from the Girona Bus Station<\/strong>.<\/p>

    From Barcelona<\/strong>, you can reach Palam\u00f3s via the inland route, using the AP-7<\/strong>; the trip takes approximately 1 hour and 21 minutes. Another option is to take the AP-7<\/strong> and connect with the C-35<\/strong>, or take the C-32<\/strong> along the coast.<\/p>
