In fact, it is globally known for being <strong>the best-preserved in all of Europe<\/strong>.<\/p><p>Its construction began in the 12th century, when several Jewish families decided to settle on <strong>Carrer de la For\u00e7a<\/strong>. The Jewish community of that time quickly integrated into Girona&#8217;s society and came to play a key role in the city&#8217;s economic development, thanks to its high cultural level.<\/p><figure id=\"attachment_28792\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-28792\" style=\"width: 1024px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-28792 size-large\" title=\"Carrer de la For\u00e7a\" src=\"http:\/\/staging.catalunyaturisme.cat\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/girona-carrer-forca-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"Carrer de la For\u00e7a\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" srcset=\"https:\/\/staging.catalunyaturisme.cat\/wp-content\/uploads\/girona-carrer-forca-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/staging.catalunyaturisme.cat\/wp-content\/uploads\/girona-carrer-forca-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/staging.catalunyaturisme.cat\/wp-content\/uploads\/girona-carrer-forca-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/staging.catalunyaturisme.cat\/wp-content\/uploads\/girona-carrer-forca.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-28792\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Carrer de la For\u00e7a<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>It is worth mentioning that, from the 11th to the 13th century, this place was the seat of <strong>the most important Kabbalah school in the entire medieval West<\/strong>.<\/p><p>Currently, part of the Jewish Quarter has been rehabilitated thanks to <a href=\"http:\/\/embassies.gov.il\/madrid\/Pages\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the Embassy of Israel<\/a> and the Patronat Call de <a href=\"https:\/\/staging.catalunyaturisme.cat\/en\/girona\/\" title=\"Girona, the City that Enchants\">Girona<\/a>, an autonomous municipal body responsible for the recovery and preservation of the city&#8217;s Jewish heritage.<\/p><p>The Patronat is located at the <strong>Centre Bonastruc \u00e7a Porta<\/strong>, where you can see exhibits and displays related to Jewish life.<\/p><p>Along Carrer de la For\u00e7a, you will find the <strong>Museum of Jewish History<\/strong>, where you can delve into the history of the Jewish community in Catalonia and Girona, and the <strong>Girona History Museum<\/strong>. Additionally, in a part of the street where it widens, there are several restaurants with terraces, where you can enjoy the tranquility of the heart of the Jewish Quarter of Girona.<\/p><p>From Carrer de la For\u00e7a, you will reach the<strong> Cathedral Square<\/strong>, where a long staircase leads up to the majestic <strong>Cathedral of Girona<\/strong>. Some authors have found many similarities between this alley and the streets of the old city of Jerusalem.<\/p><p>On Carrer de Sant Lloren\u00e7 is the Centre Bonastruc \u00e7a Porta and the <strong>House of Lle\u00f3 Avinay<\/strong>. The former consists of a set of gardens, courtyards, and buildings that offer a more detailed view of medieval Jewish architecture. One of the most impressive parts is the courtyard, surrounded by Gothic windows and with a beautiful well in the center, which can be seen from Carrer de Sant Lloren\u00e7.<\/p><p>You can continue the route along the <strong>Pujada de la Mare de D\u00e9u de la Pera<\/strong>, the brightest street of those forming the Jewish Quarter, which marked the upper limit of the Jewish neighborhood. On this street is <strong>La Pabordia<\/strong>, a set of buildings that housed the public baths between the 13th and 14th centuries.<\/p><p>Finally, it is worth visiting the <strong>Placeta de l&#8217;Institut Vell<\/strong>, where several Jewish constructions from medieval times are concentrated, and the <strong>Canonja Vella<\/strong>, from the 12th century.<\/p><p>The Jewish Quarter of <a title=\"What to do and see in Girona\" href=\"https:\/\/staging.catalunyaturisme.cat\/en\/girona\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Girona<\/a> is a charming place full of secrets.
